Serpent Crusher (I Samuel 11)

May 4, 2025    Jeremy Erb

In this exploration of 1 Samuel 11, we journey through the grand narrative of God's redemptive plan, focusing on the recurring theme of the promised 'seed' who will crush the serpent's head. From Genesis to the New Testament, we trace this thread of hope, seeing how it weaves through the stories of Abraham, Moses, Joshua, and the judges, ultimately culminating in Jesus Christ. This message challenges us to recognize the echoes of Eden in our own lives and in the world around us. Are we, like the Israelites, looking for a leader to save us from our enemies? The powerful parallel drawn between Nahash the Ammonite and the serpent in Eden reminds us that our true enemy is not flesh and blood, but the spiritual forces that seek to separate us from God. As we reflect on this, we're called to consider: Who or what are we serving? Are we, like the men of Jabesh Gilead, too quick to surrender to the 'serpents' in our lives? This message encourages us to place our trust in Jesus, the true King who has already won the victory over sin and death, and invites us to participate in His ongoing work of crushing evil under our feet.
